THESE BAS%^#*DS DON'T GET OR DESERVE A DINNING CAR.

I have been doing some weathering lately among other things ,on the MB / MRC style wagons as produced by SDS.
These wagon are fantastic ,with congratulations to all concerned.
Apart from the roof !
There is so much detail in the roof covering that hasn't been modeled or perhaps painted on the roof .
This area is going to be the most look at part of the model.
So why not put at least half the effort put into the under frame ?
So armed with some detail shots I had taken ,which just happen to be set in my modelling time period.
I set about trying to fix this problem.
Most of the Roof covering ( Malthoid ) which looks to be in various width sheets, can be represented with  a pencil line to be the joint ,Then dry and wet brushing of the various stages of weathering from original silver to black and patched sections.
The roof hatches I presume are covered in Malthoid too.But haven't been able to find any roof pictures to confirm. So I followed my intuition on this.
The sides of the wagons are in various stages of deterioration and patching .With wet and dry brushing, washes and chalks used to turn the wagons into important members of the wagon roster.
After I completed the SDS versions ,I found a pack of TRAINORAMA MRC,s which didn't look as good as the SDS models but after I got stuck into them ,Its made them a lot more presentable ..
I have Added some of my detail shots to give examples of the extremes in appearance with different signage ,repairs and patches to side wall areas which can be used on these wagons around the 80,s time frame.Along with the model shots.

  6. Don’t be afraid to spread your thoughts. You have just made my year a great one! You are clearly an influence in this field so I'm sure many of these concepts probably come easily to someone like yourself however, I am still not understanding some things you’ve written here. What a highly descriptive and well written post. Any more feedback? It would be greatly appreciated.
